5 marketing resolutions for a prosperous New Year

If your office is anything like ours, resolutions will have been a huge talking point since your return to work following the New Year celebrations.

Well, so far, so good this year for Cyan. We haven’t placed a single order for breakfast with the local greasy spoon (although, admittedly we’ve only been back 2 days!). Meanwhile, our senior designer is looking radiant on a strict diet of grapefruit and powdered vitamin supplements, whilst I trained so hard at the gym the other night I became delirious and used another guy’s towel in the shower (awkward!)

But enough talk of fitness. You may also be looking to improve the effectiveness of your marketing in 2016 and, if you are, we would like to offer the following suggestions.

Review your target audience

How has your business evolved since this time last year? Have your core services expanded, changed or been consolidated and has your target audience changed as a result? The marketing objectives you set yourself for 2016 will be a lot more likely to succeed if you truly understand your audience. So why not kick off the year with some online customer surveys or focus group research?

Give your home page a face-lift

Just as many have already resolved to brush up on their physical appearance in 2016, the home page of your website may also be due for a makeover. In the light of your market research (see resolution number 1) now may be the perfect time to add new products or services. Failing that, some fresh, engaging content and striking imagery will let visitors know you’ve hit the ground running this year.

Consider a rebrand

Take things a step further and ask yourself whether your corporate branding still effectively communicates the key principles, activities and ethics of your organisation. If it does not, there is no better time of year to consider a new look and if you need some inspiration, read more about our company branding services.

Focus on mobile

Smartphones are still growing in popularity and, since Christmas, you can be sure there are thousands more tablet users out there too. So optimising your email campaigns and website for mobile devices is more important in 2016 than ever before. Make your website responsive

2015 was the year that Google unleashed ‘mobilegeddon’ upon us all, decreeing that any website in the land, which has not been made mobile-friendly, will no longer be prioritised in its search results. From a purely practical standpoint, over half of the visitors to your website are now connecting via mobile devices, so opting for a responsive design will make it a lot easier for them to read your content too.
